Sightseeing in Around Kathmandu valley
Boudhanath : The stupa of Boudhanath lies 8 km east of Kathmandu. This ancient colossal stupa is one of the biggest in the world. It stands on an octagonal base inset with prayer wheels and ringed by houses of lamas or Buddhist's priests. Build by king Manadeva at the advice of goddess Mani Jogini. It has four pair of eyes in the four cordinal directions keeping watch for righteous behavior and human prosperity.
Swyambhunath Temple (Monkey Temple) : Said to be 2000 years old, this Buddhist stupa, located4km/2.5 miles west of Kathmandu city. The main structure is composed of a solid hemisphere of brick and earth supporting a lofty conical spire capped by a pinnacle of copper gilt. On the four sides of the spire, is the all seeing eyes of lord Buddha.
Nagarkot : Nagarkot is a popular tourist resort of Nepal. It is situated 32km/22 miles east of Kathmandu at an altitude of 2175 m above sea level. The panorama of the major peaks of eastern Nepal Himalaya including Mt. Everest can be seen from here. It is also very famous for sunrise and sunset viewing.
Dhulikhel : Dhulikhel is an ancient town which is situated 30 km east of Kathmandu on the side of the Kathmandu - Kodari highway at an altitude of 1600m/3500 feet above sea level. It is also popular in viewing sunrise and sunset. Once an important link in has a glorious past which can be seen in the lovely buildings and intricate wood carvings in the shop-lined streets and temples. Pleasant climate (even during summer) is big attraction at Dhulikhel.
